NeuRA is a not-for-profit independent medical research institute, with a wide range of disease-specific and fundamental discovery research in neuroscience. It has a diverse audience, from scientific colleagues, to “highly informed lay public”, and donors, all crossing many different disease and research interests.

I’m now writing in April 2015 about ten months after the review was completed – a realistic time to consider the true impact, not just the excitement and possibilities which arose during the process. With Camilla’s and Bill’s excellent strategic guidance, and plenty of subsequent hard work from our staff, NeuRA has:

  • near doubled its digital audience size
  • implemented an Adwords program with generous suport from Google AdGrants, which has been the main factor in doubling our website traffic since July 2014
  • increased web and eDM donations by over 150% over 8 comparable months before and after implementation of the strategy. This result excludes additional income from the “Ice Bucket Challenge”, which occurred just after strategy implementation commenced, and one large gift, both achieved due to better web discovery.
  • successfully commenced social media recruitment of medical research participants (one of the significant barriers to faster research)
